The Knitting Vault offers designers a free marketplace to sell their patterns. The “rules” are few and the rewards many.

How to Submit Designs:

Click on “Designer Area”
Login (if your are already a registered designer) or click “Designer Application” to register.

Note: Registration allows us to set up an account so that we can report and pay you and keep you apprised of any updates. It also allows you to access your records to check on your sales.

Once your application is approved, begin the pattern submission process.
Your pattern must be your own original design and/or you must be the holder of the copyright. By submitting the pattern you are acknowledging that this is true and that you have the legal authority to sell the pattern. The Knitting Vault shall be held harmless should there be any violation of intellectual property rights.
To begin, click on “Submit Pattern” and do the following:
  • Complete the form:
    • Enter your own Pattern # (for consistency with your records).
    • Enter your own Pattern Name.
    • Enter a description of the pattern. It will be used when the pattern picture is displayed.
    • Enter sizes and finished measurements (this is required for sweaters, vests and other fitted garments).
    • Enter the price of the pattern in US dollars.
      • Note: You the designer establish your own price. We will never sell your pattern for any other price without your written permission. The Knitting Vault is non-exclusive and you may sell your patterns elsewhere; however, the price you establish for The Knitting Vault must be the same or less than it is sold elsewhere.
    • Complete the next eight categories using dropdown screens.
    • Enter as many keywords as you like to describe your pattern to allow for successful keyword searches.

  • Upload the pattern files:
    • A picture of your front page, which must include a photograph of the finished product.
    • An alternate picture for the thumbnail picture (if different from the front page picture).
    • Text and any other documents, pictures and/or graphs relating to the pattern.
      • Note: A Copyright notice for your pattern must appear on your pattern.
    • Files should be uploaded in one of the following formats: .doc, .txt, .rtf, .pdf, .gif or .jpg.
      • Picture files should be no smaller than 300 pixels wide and the file size should be under 1MB if possible. (Large files can be uploaded but will take much longer to upload depending on the file size.)
      • The best picture format would be .jpg sized to 300 pixels width and compressed at 80%. This will yield a good quality picture and a small file size.

The Knitting Vault will create a PDF file of the complete pattern from your file submissions, and add a watermark to discourage copying. We apply Adobe 7.0’s high encryption level (128-bit RC4), strictly limit the file to printing ONLY and enable text access for screen reader devices for the visually impaired. Patterns are available for downloading for 3 days.

You will receive an email indicating that your pattern has been approved and is available for customers to purchase.

Note: by sending the pattern, you are giving The Knitting Vault permission to include all elements of the pattern (text, pictures and graphics) on its website.

Designers are responsible for the content of their patterns and must keep all patterns updated. As soon as you become aware of an error in a pattern, you must add the errata information to the Pattern Catalog. All previous purchasers will automatically receive an email from The Knitting Vault informing them of the revision.

You must then send updated pattern files incorporating the corrections so that future customers will receive the proper version.

The Knitting Vault reserves the right to reject patterns that do not meet our standards.
